Our April Artist Uncorked is KristAn Filer - Coleman!!
Through her vibrant use of color, light, and texture, KristAn Filer brings the spirit of the Upper Midwest to life. Her artwork captures the charm, character, and uniqueness of the UP and surrounding countryside, blending playfulness with a deep sense of place.
KristAn’s journey to becoming a full-time artist is as rich and dynamic as her work. After high school, she served in the Air Force as an Aerospace Ground Equipment Mechanic, with time spent stationed in both Spain and California. She then dedicated over 25 years to education as a high school mathematics and Spanish teacher, while also coaching varsity volleyball. Her career continued to evolve as she took on roles as an Athletic Director and collegiate volleyball coach in Upper Michigan, and later as a high school Manufacturing teacher.
Her return to art was deeply personal. During COVID—and especially following the loss of her father in 2020—KristAn felt a strong pull back to creating. Her work began to reflect his humor, his kindness, and his love for nature, adding a meaningful emotional layer to everything she produces.
Now retired and living in Green Bay, Wisconsin with her two spirited Scottish Terriers, Molly and McGreedy, KristAn spends her days immersed in creativity—whether in her studio drawing, painting, and crafting collages, or out exploring nature for inspiration.
This past year—and continuing into 2026—has been her “year of the birds,” symbolizing a sense of freedom and renewal that shines through in her work.
KristAn is a proud member of the Wisconsin Watercolor Society and was recently honored with a Merit Award at Art on the Island in Fond du Lac.
