Stephanie Leisering was born in Elgin, Illinois in 1985. She was interested in the visual arts from a very young age because she came from an artistically creative family. She continued her passion for art into high school where she attended the Renaissance School for the Arts . After high school she studied sculpture and painting at the University of Wisconsin- Fox Valley and then went on to receive her BFA from The Peck School of the Arts at the University of Wisconsin- Milwaukee.
About five years ago Stephanie wanted to be more involved in the arts and get back into creating. She got into sewing because her mom was a quilter and Stephanie had many college courses related to using fiber. So she started to sew and also make collages in her spare time with recycled and saved bits of paper and fabric.
Eventually she started to sell and show her art at local outdoor art events and competitions. She also started entering her fiber works into quilt shows and quilt magazines. Stephanie recently wanted to focus on expanding her presence in the local art community so in 2020 she joined the Madison Contemporary Fiber Artists group, a local Modern Quilt Guild and the Fond Du Lac Artists Association. Also for the month of July in 2020 Stephanie was the Virtual Artist of the month for the Fond du Lac Library. She virtually shared how to create funky up-cycled collages through Zoom meetings and also Facebook Live videos.
Stephanie plans to continue to sewing and create more mixed media works in her future. She plans to focus on integrating more of up-cycling or recycling previously used materials to make beautiful new creations.
