Our featured artist for the month of September is Sue Hoehnen.
“I began using Photoshop a few years ago to create collages & abstract drawings. Around the same time my daughter got married & I wanted a different way to display her photos. I found a way to transfer photos onto tiles using acrylic medium then used the same technique to transfer though provoking words & expressions onto tiles as well.
I discovered many different types of acrylic mediums and started to experiment combining them along with papers & paint to create mixed media pieces. I love using texture & tend to incorporate them into many of the pieces I create.
My work is based upon my own memories & thoughts on the subjects I use. I love expressions & words that I refer to as “thoughts to ponder”. I enjoy being outside “bonding with nature”. Many of my inspirations come from places I visit or see everyday in my life.
In 2016 I took on a different project, opening a new gallery featuring art and gifts from local artists. Ubuntu Art Space. Ubuntu ( oo BOON too) is the concept that “ I am what I am because of who we all are”. What we do affects each other and that interconnection makes us become who we are. Each artist has their own unique style and together we make up Ubuntu Art Space.
My hope is that you find something in my artwork that inspires or creates a feeling within yourself. To me that is the greatest satisfaction an artist can have.”
Stop by the winery, grab a glass of wine and wonder through our “gallery” to check out Sue’s beautiful pieces.
