Our featured artist for the month of October is Carissa Rivara Sorensen.

Carissa Sorensen was born in the suburbs of Chicago in 1981. She combined her two greatest interests while at Ripon College where she majored in psychobiology (with an emphasis on animal behavior) and minored in studio art.

Carissa is the owner of Yellow Horse LLC Integrative Horse Training, based at Edgewater Farms in Berlin, WI. Her passion is helping each horse become physically and emotionally balanced by combining her knowledge of equine biomechanics with a deep and empathetic understanding of equine behavior.

According to Carissa’s mother, she’s been drawing animals since she could hold a pencil. This natural inclination has led her to enjoy creating a varied body of work including her popular acrylic pet portraits. Her portfolio includes pen and ink drawings, watercolor, alcohol ink, and acrylic paintings. (She hasn’t met an art supply that she doesn’t enjoy) Carissa believes that art is a grand adventure and enjoys learning new techniques and mediums.

Carissa and her husband Justin live in Ripon with their kids and two ridiculous dogs.
